Eurostar - From England to France
Eurostar Trains - Destinations
We know Eurostar trains don't run from Dover to Calais, but near enough. It is possible to catch a Eurostar train from London, Ebssfleet or Ashford, and get off at Calais. But most travellers will use Eurostar to travel direct from the centre of London to the Centre of Paris or Brussels, with very fast journey times (2 hours 15 minutes to Paris).
Eurostar trains run direct to Lille (northern France) and Eurodisney (Disneyland Paris). It is also possible to catch a Eurostar train to Avignon or the French Alps, depending on the season.
If you need to reach other destinations in Europe, then of course it is possible to make a connection with other trains in Paris or Brussels. So catching the train to Holland, Germany, Italy or Spain is no problem at all. The complete train fares and tickets can be booked through Eurostar, so you can rest assured that you have all you need for your European train journey.
Disneyland Paris / Eurodisney
For those with children the direct daily service from London to Disneyland might be particularly interesting. The train will stop just outside the gates of Disneyland. This means you can leave London at around 10 in the morning, arrive at Disneyland just after lunchtime, enjoy the whole afternoon in the resort and board the train back at half seven to arrive back in London just after nine in the evening. It doesn’t get any easier than that and your children will have a ball. You can even buy tickets in advance, direct from Disneyland here.
If you need more time than a day trip, there are plenty of hotels and places to stay at the Disneyland resort. These can be booked through Eurostar, or direct with Disneyland Paris.
Eurostar Trains - Departures
Eurostar trains offer a ticket called a "through fare" which enables you to book a journey from your local mainline train station (for example Brighton, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham...) all the way through to your destination in Europe. So for example, you can book a train journey from Birmingham to Paris, all on one ticket. See Eurostar for details.
Checking in and Boarding the Eurostar
Travelling on the Eurostar is a great experience from start to finish - you can even start you journey off in true style with champagne in the longest champagne bar overlooking the platforms at St. Pancras in London. After that, just get on the train, enjoy some food onboard, watch the world go by and before you know it you are at your destination.
For security reasons your luggage will be checked before you can get on the train. It is therefore important to arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before departure.
How to book, and find the best prices and fares
The process of booking your Eurostar train ticket is simple, and can
all be done online at the official
Eurostar web site here. It is always best to book direct with
Eurostar, so that you can avoid any agent's fees or extras. Plus they
will have the greatest choice of fares and tickets available, such as
special offers and cheap deals.
You should also consider which class of Eurostar ticket you need.
Eurostar offer 3 levels of ticket - Business, Leisure Select or
Standard. Standard is the cheapest. Leisure select offers a higher level
of service, and is probably comparable to an airline "Club Class" fare.
Business tickets are obviously aimed at business travellers, and usually
offer the most flexibility.
If you can be specific about when you travel, and possibly travel at
more off peak times, then you are more likely to get a cheaper fare. A
flexible ticket will be more expensive.

Alternatives to Eurostar
If you are travelling without a car, then as an alternative to travelling by Eurostar you may consider taking the coach or buying a train-ferry-train ticket. However, it is hard to find anything to match the comfort and value of Eurostar.
Coach
Journey times from London to Paris by coach are longer (up to 10 hours) than the Eurostar, but cheap fares can be found from as little as £25. See our Dover to Calais Coach page for more.
Other Trains
An alternative train journey for crossing the Channel could be to buy a train ticket known as a Train-Ferry-Train journey. See our Dover to Calais Trains page for more.
